Diabetic Exam
Satisfying Results and Positive Outcomes for our Patients.
Diabetes is currently on the rise in Australia. It affects the whole body but its damage starts with the destruction of small blood vessels and the dreadful effects are first noticeable in the retina of the eye.
One of the diseases associated with diabetes is Diabetic Retinopathy – a condition in which blood vessels in the retina get damaged or destroyed resulting in poor vision, white or dark spots on the retina and trouble in seeing things at night time due to blurry sight.
Optical coherence tomography is used to see behind the retina and can give a much more accurate assessment to any unseen diabetic complications. Preventative is key. Queensland transport requires those people with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes to have their eyesight tested at least annually and have a comprehensive ocular check, with dilation, at least every 2 years.
